The allure of uncovering ancient mysteries often comes hand in hand with the unpredictability of the earth’s secrets.

Back in 2006, Time Team visited Warburton in Manchester following reports that there could be a Roman Fort on the site of a farmers field. A local metal detectorist had found several key finds, and a local university, as well as local dig groups had seemingly confirmed this WAS the site of a Roman Fort.

A ground penetrating scan had even seemingly confirmed a ditch that would surround the fort of this style and timeline.

But all was not as it seemed, and the dig grew more and more frustrating over the traditional 3 days Time Team dug.
